John O'Connor APAGB

John took up photography on discovering he had a surplus of funds after giving up smoking in the mid-1970s. He joined Harrow CC in 1977, its committee as Programme Secretary in 1988, and was then President in 1991. In 1992 he joined the CACC committee, becoming chairman in 1998. From 1993-2003 John was the CACC member on the PAGB Executive, working first on the recorded lecture service, and later as chairman of the patronage committee: he also served on the national AV championship committee. John was awarded APAGB in 1999.

John's interest in still photography was highlighted by his 1988 print of Lake Bled, taken on a Harrow CC foreign trip, which won best print successively at Harrow, the NWLondon Federation and the Central Association. The print has been on display at home ever since. His love of all things technical included having a home darkroom and his interest in audio-visual, which meant travelling to many AV events.

John also supported Mary in her roles of President of Harrow, Regional Organiser for the RPS, and Chairman of Aylesbury CC. John died in June.
